The full bath on my main floor was a really groovy pink-like hue. Apparently this was really all the rage years ago; pinkage-like tub, sink and toilet replete with the tiles. I actually saw the same bathroom in my friend's Mother's house some miles away. I'm thinking that this bathroom is from the 60's, maybe even earlier. Note: the white tiles in the photo were just replaced by me this week, as they had some hairline cracks which might have become worse with time.
Yesterday I had the bathroom reglazed. The technique involves:
1. A process called acid etching. This is a very important process in bath tub and tile reglazing as it is necessary for remove the old finish and to temper the surfaces to allow them to accept the new glaze.
2. Then a special primer is applied and allowed to dry.
3. Finally the new finish is applied, and once that is dry the process of bath tub and tile reglazing is complete.
The result is a like-new, easy to clean, spotless bathtub and tile surface that will last for years. Plus it beats the cost of demo and replacement,, at least 8k vs about $1500 once I replace the toilet and sink.
And here is the final result: Although this photo isn't very sharp, it shows the vanity (Grossman's Bargain Depot- $220, new toilet and a little bit of the tile job (I tiled over the old tiles)
